Pune Panthers Surge Past Gurugram Thunders by 4 Wickets in World Legends Pro T20 League

Pune Panthers and Gurugram Thunders served up a gripping contest in the 2nd Match of the World Legends Pro T20 League 2026 at the 1919 Sportz Cricket Stadium in Goa. Electing to bat after winning the toss, the Thunders put up a respectable 159 for 5 in their 20 overs, anchored by key contributions from Ross Taylor (41 off 26) and Colin de Grandhomme (28 not out off 19).

Gurugram’s innings featured a steady start, with Faiz Ahmed chipping in with a brisk 35, but wickets at regular intervals curbed any late onslaught. Thunders captain Thisara Perera managed just a handful before being dismissed, leaving a competitive total for the Panthers to chase.

Panthers Execute Clinical Chase

In response, Pune Panthers chased down the target in 17 overs, finishing on 160 for 6. The chase was anchored by an unbeaten, explosive 68 off 28 deliveries from Martin Guptill, whose power hitting kept the required run rate firmly under control throughout the innings.

Upul Tharanga and Faiz Fazal provided brisk starts, while contributions down the order ensured Panthers maintained momentum. Despite losing wickets at crucial moments, Guptill’s innings proved decisive in steering his side over the line with four wickets in hand.

Player of the Match

Martin Guptill’s dynamic batting display earned him the Player of the Match award as the Panthers claimed their first win of the campaign. Speaking about the chase, Guptill said, “It was good to set the tone early. Chases like that can get tricky if you lose wickets, but we managed to stay ahead of the run rate, and from there it was pretty straightforward. It was great fun playing against familiar faces and enjoying a bit of banter out in the middle. Today’s done now, though we take the confidence, reset, and go again tomorrow.”
